Zunifetishes.com is know owned by Daniel Hise. I maintained the web
site for Jim Ostler since 1998 and have come to know the art form
of Zuni Fetishes.
All fetish carvings presented by zunifetishes.com
have come from Zuni Pueblo. Zunis are an agricultural people who
have adapted to the desert Southwest and are renowned for their
elaborate ceremonies, their kachina dances, their jewelry, and
their fetish carvings.
All the fetish carvings with the number
82802 currently on the site have been selected by Jim Ostler, who
lived in Zuni from l984 to l996. He knew most of the carvers, their
families, and their work and is the co-author of the book The
Fetish Carvers of Zuni published by the Maxwell Museum, University
of New Mexico. All other number groups were selected by Daniel Hise,
the current owner.
All carvings carry the artist's name,
the name of the material and the name of the object. All the carvings
have been selected for their polish, their fit and their artistry.
